Golden Raintree
Koelreuteria paniculata

Golden Raintree will draw attention
all summer with its beautiful dark green foliage, foot-long, golden
cascades of flowers in July, and bright green seed pods that turn to
beige and last throughout the winter. Flowers dry into
interestingly-shaped "pods" that resemble Japanese lanterns. This
hardy tree grows 30-40 feet tall and makes an excellent small
shade tree. Likes full to partial sun. Drought tolerant and grows well
in most soil conditions. The Golden Raintree also has orange-yellow
color in the fall.
When To Plant: Spring or Fall
planting is best.
Where To Plant: This tree is
very adaptable as long as it has good drainage. Choose a spot that
gets full to almost
full sun. It may not grow large enough to produce much shade, but will
make a great accent plant.
How To Plant: Dig the hole
about twice to three times larger than the root ball, and about the
same depth that it is in the pot. Amend the soil you have taken out of
the hole with Back To Nature or Hu-More. This helps give your tree a
good start. Backfill using the amended soil, watering as you go to
remove any air pockets that may be in the soil. After planting mulch
with about a 2-3" layer to prevent moisture loss and weed growth.
Care and Maintenance: Golden
raintree is by far one of the easiest trees to care for. It is
considered a fast growing tree and does best when fertilized in the
early spring. It is fairly drought tolerant, once established, and for
the most part pest resistant.
More Information: Some have
said they believe the wood of this tree to be weak. We don't find that
to be the case. Most customers we have gotten feed back from have been
very pleased with their trees.
